Beginner’s Ethnobotany Walk (FULL)

  • Millersylvania State Park 12245 Tilley Road Southwest Olympia, WA, 98512 United States (map)

The study of ethnobotany (human relationships with plants) paints a powerful picture of how humans have coexisted with the natural world around us. This includes medicine, tools, food, and more. If you are new to ethnobotany, this walk is a great place to get started and learn about core plants of the PNW and how they have been used for millennia, and how we can use them respectfully today.

In this session, we’ll walk the trails of Millersylvania State Park to identify and share stories of many of our common plants. The walk will be slow paced and easy difficulty, stopping often to have group discussions and interact with the plants we see.

This beautiful state park features an incredible array of micro habitats and ecology, allowing us to study wetlands, transition zones, and old growth forest alike.

All skill levels are welcome, but the course will be designed with beginners in mind.

This class is at a State Park - please bring your Discover passes for parking at this site.
