Course Description
Tuition: $35.00 - $75.00 (Sliding Scale)

Take a tour of the wild plants growing at Bell Creek Nature School, a beautiful blend of Old Growth temperate rain forest and riparian riverside. In this workshop, led by Survival Guide Ryan Johnson, identify key plant species of the Pacific Northwest and learn core botany principles that will help you discover species throughout our region. We will even learn a handful of plants that are safe to eat! At the end of class, we will use our new found knowledge to build a fire and make wild tea!

Course Outline

  • Plant identification basics and terminology

  • Key species of major ecosystems

  • Wild edibles and how to identify them safely

  • Plant walk for training and practice

  • Ethnobotanical uses for many plants

Materials: Please bring lunch, water bottle, & warm clothing for all weather conditions (especially rain). Please bring a mug or cup for wild tea at the end of class.
