Fire brings us warmth, protection, food, light, and so much more! When it’s time to build your fire out in nature, it can be challenging to get it going, especially as the rain starts coming down! In this course, hosted by Bell Creek Nature School and led by Survival Guide Ryan Johnson, practice fire building in the challenging conditions of the Pacific Northwest. We’ll dive into the core rules of survival, different fire configurations, and tips and tricks to find success. At the end of the session, we’ll test different tools and equipment you should add to your pack for fire starting, survival, and adventure!

Course Outline

  • Principles of survival in the outdoors (focus on PNW)

  • Core concepts of fire starting and maintenance

  • Overview of different fire set ups

  • Emergency scenario practice

  • How to find fire resources in any season in the PNW

  • Modern gear to keep in your pack and how to use it

What to Bring
Please bring lunch, fixed blade knife (or locking folding knife), water bottle & warm clothing for all weather conditions (especially rain).
