In this outdoor program, learn survival skills with a focus on the world of shelter building. Train with the instructors to discover two emergency debris shelter building techniques. Learn five essential knots for quick and easy tarp set up, and then deploy your shelter in minutes!

Shelter is the most important survival need, because staying dry and keeping our core body temperature is the highest priority. You’ll be able to use these skills for camping, hiking, backpacking, gardening, and more. Be ready for your next adventure with the skills and knowledge from this interactive shelter course!

During the first half of this outing, you’ll learn about and practice emergency debris shelters:

  • You’ll learn two types of debris shelters — a-frame and lean-to

  • Learn and practice core concepts like framing, lashing, and insulating layers

  • Understand how to find the best materials for each shelter component

  • Work as a team to get hands-on practice making a shelter

In the second half of this outing, you’ll work with knots, rope, tarps and stakes:

  • Learn different tarp configurations and when to use them

  • Understand knot and cordage terminology and five essential knots, useful for many situations

  • Practice with tips and tricks for quick tarp deployment

You’ll also receive a paracord length and rainproof knot-tying guide to take in your pack to be prepared for your next outing (included in the registration price)!
