Waterfowl Walk (Free)

  • Marathon Park 1011 Deschutes Parkway Southwest Olympia, WA, 98502 United States (map)

Course Description

With the spring and summer birds gone, it’s now time for us to turn our attention to the incredible arriving waterfowl!

Join naturalists and birders Licia Sahagun and Ryan Johnson for the first waterfowl walk of the season! In this session, participants will walk the trails around Capitol Lake searching and identifying the waterfowl we see, like Mallards, wood ducks, wigeons, geese, buffleheads, pintails, and more! This session is welcome to beginning birders and experts alike!

Brand new to birding? No problem! We’ll help you get started. Waterfowl are a great way to “dive” in because the plants have dropped their leaves and we can view them out on the water!

What should participants bring on this outing?

  • Rain gear and comfortable layers for all weather conditions

  • Waterproof boots / comfortable footwear

  • Water / snacks if desired

  • Binoculars (if you have some)

  • Field guides / note pads (optional for additional study)

  • Download the Merlin birding app (Free, but great resource!)

This class is free, but please RSVP so we can send a friendly reminder email when the date is getting near the class!
