Winter Birds & Beavers Walk (Free)

  • Interpretive Park @ Capitol Lake 300 Deschutes Way SW, Tumwater, WA 98512 Olympia Washington (map)

With winter in full swing, the forests and wetlands are quiet — a closer look and a few extra layers to brave the cold will reward the outdoors person with plenty of examples of wildlife still on the move!

This winter-themed wildlife walk, led by naturalists Ryan Johnson and Licia Sahagun of Firecraft Northwest will focus on the birds that don’t migrate south and the mammals that don’t hibernate like beavers!

For this outing, walk the trails and boardwalks of the Interpretive Park at Capitol Lake to study waterfowl, over-wintering songbirds, beaver sign, and if we’re lucky, other mammals that may come out during the session.

Please come prepared for this trip with plenty of warm layers, warm, comfortable footwear, and rain protection, and binoculars if you have them. If you’d like assistance selecting gear and clothing for winter outdoor activity, don’t hesitate to reach out for recommendations.
