Tree and Plant ID Educational Session with the Chehalis Land Trust (free)

  • Chehalis River Discovery Trail 1545 Goodrich Road Centralia, WA, 98531 United States (map)

Event Description

Have you always wanted to learn about some of our native trees, plants and shrubs growing along the river when hiking? This free educational session may be a perfect way to spend your morning!

Please join the Chehalis Land Trust team and Naturalist and Wildlife Guide Ryan Johnson of Firecraft Northwest for a walk at Chehalis River Discovery Trail.

In this session, Ryan will point out key trees and plants for us to learn, while discussing strategies and tips for identifying them in the field. We’ll also cover some of their relevant ethnobotanical history!

This hike will be considered easy difficulty. We’ll cover less than two miles, with frequent stops to review and interpret different plants we see along the path.

Where should I park?

The gate will be open so you may drive in along the curved road and park next to the big red barn, or you are welcome to park at the main Discovery Trail parking lot, about 1/2 mile before the trailhead if you’d like some extra mileage!

How will I find the group?

We’ll meet next to the old red barn under the covered area with benches!

What should I bring on this outing?

  • Comfortable footwear

  • Layers for rain and various weather conditions to stay cozy

  • Water, beverages and/or snacks

  • Binoculars (optional)

  • Field guides, notepads, or journals to study (optional)

This event is free and open to the public! All ages are welcome, but children in attendance must be accompanied by an adult or parent.
