Wildlife tracking may seem like an activity that requires trips to far reaching remote locations. On the contrary, there are many animal tracks and signs even in densely populated urban areas for us to study and learn from. During this outing, participants will track the animals that frequent our parks and our own backyards to learn how to identify them.
This session will be a beginner friendly, slow-paced walk of less than 2 miles and extremely low elevation gain. We’ll stop frequently to discuss and interpret tracks and signs that we find. In these discussions, participants will match those signs to animal behavior and how those behaviors align with local resources and ecology.
Participants will leave with a new set of skills and appreciation for the wild creatures that inhabit urban systems while developing a foundation for their wildlife tracking journey.
Precise directions and our meeting location within Fort Steilacoom Park will be sent the week of class to all participants who complete registration.
